Helping You Understand Sickle Cell Anemia
ASCAA serves as a repository of information for all 50 states and for all countries around the world. Our organization distributes more than 9,250 educational information materials (primarily literature and brochures) out of state each year. ASCAA responds annually to thousands of direct inquiries for information through our Website, and we gladly provide information to patients and their families through direct, verbal, or email communication.

Newborn Screening
Newborn screening provides early detection of infants with genetic and metabolic disorders. Most states in this country provide newborn screening for inherited disorders such ad PKU, Sickle Cell Disease, and Galactosemia. In some states, there may be as many as 25 metabolic disorders screened for in a newborn at birth. Early detection for these disorders is critical to the quality of life and management for your children.
